HOYA Group Commits to Science Based Targets to Accelerate Climate Action

In August 2025, HOYA Corporation (including its group companies) submitted a commitment letter to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)*1, formally stating its intention to set science-based greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets. The acceptance of this letter marks a significant step in advancing the Group’s climate action through the pursuit of SBTi certification. As part of this commitment, HOYA aims to establish near-term GHG reduction targets aligned with the 1.5°C pathway under the Paris Agreement*2, in line with SBTi criteria, within two years.

HOYA Group joined RE100 in 2023 and is working toward sourcing 60% of its electricity from renewable energy by FY2030 and 100% by FY2040. Using FY2021 as the baseline, the Group has set goals to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions by 60% by FY2030 and by 100% by FY2040. These efforts are supported by energy-saving initiatives and the adoption of renewable energy, particularly at production sites.

With the establishment of SBT, HOYA will also set Scope 3 targets and expand its decarbonization efforts across the entire supply chain.

It provides companies with a framework to set greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets that are aligned with the latest climate science. These targets, known as Science Based Targets (SBT), help ensure that corporate climate actions are consistent with the goals of the Paris Agreement.Science Based Targets (SBT) are GHG reduction goals grounded in climate science.

*2  The Paris Agreement, adopted in 2015, aims to limit global warming to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels, with efforts to limit the increase to 1.5°C.
