Environmental

The replacement of energy-efficient equipment at our manufacturing sites and the installation of solar panels continued to progress steadily throughout the year. As a result, our renewable energy ratio increased further, reaching 27% in FY2025. In Japan, we have also expanded our efforts to introduce renewable energy sources with a focus on additionality, including the use of off-site corporate PPAs.

As we work toward our FY2030 targets, we will continue to advance these initiatives while promoting decarbonization from multiple perspectives, including across our value chain.

Environmental Philosophy, Policies and Governance Frameworkimage

The HOYA Group is committed to environmental conservation as part of its ESG management, with the goal of passing on a healthy global environment to future generations. Since establishing its Environmental Philosophy in 1993, the Group has promoted environmental initiatives across all domestic and overseas sites. In 2013, the Group obtained global multi-site certification for its Environmental, Occupational Safety and Health Management System, establishing a globally integrated environmental management framework. In 2022, we revised both our Environmental Philosophy and Fundamental Environmental Policies to further strengthen our efforts in addressing environmental issues, including climate change, resource circularity, water conservation, and biodiversity protection.

Fundamental Environmental Policies

The HOYA Group has established clear responsibilities, authorities, and roles relating to Environment, Safety and Health (ESH), and has designated responsible personnel at the corporate, business division, and site levels.

The corporate headquarters is responsible for establishing Group-wide policies, priority initiatives, and Group standards, while monitoring the implementation status of measures and progress toward targets across business divisions and sites. Through the operation of common management systems and internal audits, the headquarters also promotes the continuous improvement of Environment, Safety and Health activities throughout the Group.

Each business division and site establishes and implements environmental objectives and initiatives based on Group policies while conducting education and awareness programs. In addition, information is shared across the Group to deepen understanding of legal requirements and Group standards and to prevent accidents, disasters, and environmental incidents.

Environmental risks and initiatives are incorporated into the framework of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), with the CSO providing regular reports to the Board of Directors. Feedback from the Board is reflected in environmental strategies and initiatives, ensuring ongoing oversight and continuous improvement.

To improve environmental performance, including energy consumption, water consumption, and waste generation, performance audits are conducted at manufacturing sites. These audits assess management systems and environmental activities, identify issues, analyze root causes, evaluate risks, and provide recommendations for corrective actions.

Each site develops and implements improvement plans based on audit results, and progress is verified through ongoing follow-up activities and subsequent audits.

Audit results and ESH performance are also reviewed through management reviews conducted by Executive Officers. The outcomes are reflected in operational initiatives and management systems, supporting the continuous reduction of environmental impacts and enhancement of environmental performance across all sites.

Global Environmental and Occupational Safety and Health Management System

The Group has established a global Environmental and Occupational Safety and Health Management System based on ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.

The HOYA Group obtained global multi-site certification in February 2013, and as of March 31, 2026, 51 sites in 20 countries are covered by the certification. All major manufacturing and R&D sites are certified, and certification activities are being expanded to newly established sites.

Each manufacturing site promotes environmental initiatives tailored to its business activities and regional characteristics while managing environmental data such as energy consumption, water consumption, and waste generation to reduce environmental impacts.

To appropriately monitor and manage environmental performance across the Group, we utilize an environmental data management system to globally collect and manage environmental data, including energy consumption, water consumption, waste generation, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. These data are used for monitoring, target management, internal audits, and management reviews, supporting the continuous improvement of environmental performance.

To support these activities, environmental policies and environmental targets are communicated to all HOYA Group employees. In addition, education and training programs covering energy conservation, efficient use of water resources, waste reduction, chemical management, and prevention of environmental incidents are provided to relevant personnel.

Furthermore, through new employee training and regular training programs, we strive to enhance environmental awareness among all employees.

In addition to environmental education, the Group shares and recognizes best practices through its annual ESG Awards program. Examples include initiatives relating to energy conservation, water efficiency, and waste reduction. By recognizing outstanding efforts across the Group, we promote knowledge sharing across business divisions and encourage continuous improvement while strengthening environmental awareness among employees.
