HOYA’s mission is to contribute to improving the quality of life (QOL) of people around the world through its own products and services. We are working to contribute to the resolution of social issues regarding eye care through the protection and improvement of vision.

Eye Health Information Portal Site

Through “Support Vision,” our portal site on eye health, we provide information on eye diseases, including symptoms and treatments, as well as preventive care and daily eye care practices.

Based on HOYA’s corporate philosophy of improving people’s quality of life through contributions in the fields of Vision, Health and Information Society, the site draws on the expertise we have developed through products such as eyeglass lenses, intraocular lenses and contact lenses, which support diverse visual needs.

More recently, we introduced a new “Vision Simulator” feature. This feature enables users to experience how their current vision problems may be improved through correction with eyeglasses or contact lenses (available on the Japanese-language website only). Through this feature, we seek to promote a better understanding of appropriate responses based on users’ individual eye conditions.

Improving Access to Eye Care

HOYA works with external partners to improve access to quality eye health solutions in developing countries and economically disadvantaged regions through partnership with local groups and communities. We focus particularly on children and people with limited access to vision care. By supporting access to vision screening, diagnostics, and treatment, we contribute to the prevention of blindness and eye diseases. Good vision is fundamental to learning, social development, and future opportunities, yet many children lack access to basic eye care services. By supporting early detection and access to eye care, we help improve learning opportunities, quality of life, and future prospects for children and their communities.

HOYA Vision Care Company (eyeglass lens business), under the One Vision program—its global sustainability framework aimed at creating sustainable value through environmental responsibility, community engagement, and workplace improvement—promotes long-term initiatives to expand access to eye care through partnerships, including the expansion of vision screening for children.

In alignment with international initiatives such as the WHO-led “SPECS 2030,” we work with partners and local eye care professionals to expand access to vision care services and strengthen delivery systems.

When selecting partners, we prioritize organizations with strong local expertise, trusted community relationships, and a proven ability to effectively support underserved populations. We also seek partners that share our commitment to improving access to vision care and creating positive change in underserved communities. Through these partnerships, we help strengthen local eye care systems, expand access to vision care, and create sustainable value for future generations.

Through its partnership with Orbis International (through October 2025), HOYA has supported efforts to improve access to eye care, particularly for children in underserved communities. With a focus on the early detection and management of myopia, activities have been implemented at both the local and global levels.

In India, through the Orbis International’s REACH program, school-based vision screenings and corrective eyewear have been provided. Since joining the program in 2021, eye examinations have reached 85,563 households and 1,561 schools, resulting in the provision of 19,603 pairs of eyeglasses and 374 sight-saving surgeries.

HOYA has also supported the expansion of Orbis Green Vision Centres, which provide sustainable eye care services in underserved communities. HOYA Lens UK supported the establishment of a Green Vision Centre through employee fundraising activities.

In China, HOYA promotes access to eye care through school vision screenings, eye health education, and the provision of vision care kits. Working with local partners, these initiatives support the early detection of eye diseases and vision impairment, improve awareness of eye health, and help prevent myopia among children.

In addition, HOYA supports myopia education for eye care professionals worldwide through Cybersight, Orbis International’s telemedicine and e-learning platform, contributing to the strengthening of sustainable eye care systems.

Through partnerships that combine financial support, product contributions, and educational initiatives, HOYA is helping improve access to eye care while contributing to improved quality of life and the sustainable development of communities.

Contribution to Ophthalmic Medical Research and Education

Myopia is rapidly progressing, and it is said that by 2050 approximately five billion people, roughly half of the world’s population, may be affected,*1 making it a global health issue. HOYA is actively contributing to this issue through research, awareness-raising, and education.

HOYA Vision Care Company entered into a partnership with the International Myopia Institute*2 in March 2022 to promote the prevention, treatment, and management of myopia. Through research and educational activities in the field of myopia, we are working to solve the global myopia issue.

In addition, HOYA Surgical Optics (intraocular lens business) is partnering with the European School for Advanced Studies in Ophthalmology (ESASO),*3 which supports the education of ophthalmologists around the world. HOYA Surgical Optics contributes to improving the quality of ophthalmic medical education by providing surgical equipment and products to ESASO’s educational facilities and supporting its training teams.

Eyecity Eco Project by Eyecity Contact Lens Specialty Stores

The Eyecity Eco Project, operated by Eyecity, our chain of contact lens specialty stores, is a recycling initiative that collects and recycles empty disposable contact lens cases. Dedicated collection boxes are installed at Eyecity stores as well as at partner companies, schools and local governments throughout Japan.

Launched in 2010 as the first initiative of its kind in the industry, the project aims to contribute to society in three ways: (1) environmental conservation through the recycling of empty cases, (2) supporting the independence and employment of people with disabilities, and (3) donations to the Japan Eye Bank Association.

1. Environmental conservation through the recycling of empty cases
Collected empty cases are recycled into polypropylene material used in new products. By avoiding incineration, this process helps reduce CO₂ emissions and environmental impact. In addition, the material's ease of processing enables efficient reuse, contributing to the effective use of limited resources. In FY2025, approximately 113 tons of empty cases were collected. However, the recycling rate of empty cases remains approximately 2%.* Going forward, we will continue to promote collection activities in cooperation with the many companies, schools and local governments that support this initiative.

A portion of the collected empty cases is also used as material for Mitsubishi Pencil Co., Ltd.'s “Jetstream Ocean Plastic” products. By reusing ocean plastic waste and post-consumer plastic, these environmentally conscious products have received Eco Mark certification. Through products used in everyday life, this initiative also helps raise environmental awareness.

2. Supporting the independence and employment of people with disabilities
A dedicated office (Ichikawa Challenge Office) has been established for recycling preparation work, such as removing aluminum seals from empty cases. People with disabilities are engaged in this work, supporting their independence and employment opportunities.

In addition, we purchase approximately 240,000 small items annually produced by employment support facilities throughout Japan and provide them as gifts to people who cooperate with the collection activities, thereby supporting these facilities.

3. Donations to the Japan Eye Bank Association
All proceeds from the sale of empty cases as recyclable materials are donated to the Japan Eye Bank Association. The Association supports vision restoration by connecting people requiring corneal transplants with donors, promoting eye donation registration and arranging physicians involved in corneal retrieval.
