An extension of a CSR effort from its global operations, the simulation center has already been rolled out in Japan and China.<\/p>\n<p>The center was launched by Prof. Salmaan Hussain Inayat Hussain, Dean of Faculty of Allied Health Sciences of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Hoya Vision Care Company Asia Headquarters, Mr. Miyakawa Yasuka. This was preceded by a Signing Ceremony to seal the working partnership between both parties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs global players in the optical lens industry, we have observed that most users don\u2019t truly understand the lenses suggested by their optometrist. Charts alone can\u2019t give them a chance to grasp the real life experience. Hence we envisioned this center to educate the public on choosing the right progressive lenses,\u201d said Mr. Miyakawa.<\/p>\n<p>The Simulation Center is part of the company\u2019s global CSR effort to create awareness on progressive lenses and help users have a real-life experience of wearing those lenses in the course of their daily routine such as walking down the stairs, reading road signs, and playing golf.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUKM\u2019s optometry clinic receives a large number of patients and understanding their needs include ensuring they are comfortable with the optometrist\u2019s suggestion for lenses. Progressive lenses are the new age answer for bi-focal or tri-focal issues but it takes a little time to get used to the feel of the lens and most people are not prepared for this.<br \/>\nThe Simulation Center solves this issue for us. We give patients the experience of progressive lenses before they purchase them. This will give most patients the ability to understand the after effects and benefits of the lenses. In addition, the students of UKM shall also benefit from the center by exploring new ways of delivering and recommending features of the lenses to meet patients\u2019 requirements,\u201d enthused Prof. Salmaan.<\/p>\n<p>Taking up an investment of RM 80,000, the center is set to be in operation for the next three years. It will be managed by UKM\u2019s Optometry Clinic while Hoya will provide the technical support required and serve as the center\u2019s consultant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is just the first step, further enhancements will be made to the center as and when we see it fit.
